SiLabs Launches Series 3 SoCs to Power Next-Gen Connected Devices

The new SoCs bring multi-core performance, PSA Level 4 security, and certified Matter platforms to accelerate smart home development.

The next wave of smart, connected devices demands higher performance, lower power use, and stronger protection at the edge. Many current IoT chips can no longer balance these needs as software stacks grow and protocols evolve. Silicon Labs’ new Series 3 SoCs, the SiMG301 and SiBG301 (datasheets linked), aim to fill that gap. Announced at the company’s Works With Summit in Austin, Texas, these devices mark the first products in the new SixG301 family and are now shipping through authorized distributors worldwide.

Built on a 22-nm process, Series 3 uses a multi-core design that divides application, wireless, and security tasks. This setup gives developers more room for demanding or multi-protocol projects while keeping power use low enough for devices that run continuously. Along with more memory and added interface options, the chips build on Silicon Labs’ proven Series 2 platform while staying compatible with its existing tools and ecosystem.

New Architecture and Core Features

At the center of the SixG301 family is the Arm Cortex-M33, running up to 150 MHz with floating-point and DSP support. The design pairs with up to 4 MB of flash and 512 kB of RAM, offering more space for evolving protocol stacks and application logic. Series 3 also integrates Silicon Labs’ Secure Vault technology, now certified to PSA Level 4, which is the highest standard recognized by PSA Certified. This certification verifies protection against physical attacks such as voltage manipulation, side-channel probing, and laser fault injection, addressing security requirements emerging in both U.S. and EU regulations.

The SiMG301 works as a multiprotocol chip that runs Zigbee, Bluetooth LE, and Matter over Thread at the same time. It also includes an LED pre-driver and Silicon Labs’ PIXELRZ single-wire interface, which helps simplify connected lighting and other line-powered device designs. The SiBG301, focused on Bluetooth applications, provides an easy migration path from Series 2 while maintaining the same enhanced security and processing features.

Connectivity for the Edge

Series 3 is built for strong performance at the edge. Its high-efficiency radio and smart power control allow it to run for long periods, even in compact systems with limited cooling. Transmit and receive currents stay low, and active power use averages about 47 μA/MHz at full speed. This efficiency supports continuous connectivity for smart home, commercial, and industrial devices that must remain active without large power budgets.

Developers can take advantage of concurrent multi-protocol operation (CMP) to simplify SKU management and improve user experience. With Zigbee and Matter running side by side on a single chip, product makers can ship one hardware platform that serves multiple ecosystems without compromising speed or reliability.

Matter-Compliant Platform Certification

The SiMG301 is among the first devices included in the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Matter Compliant Platform Certification program. This initiative allows silicon vendors to pre-certify their hardware and SDKs for core Matter functionality. Device makers who build on these platforms can inherit pre-tested commissioning, networking, and message security features, greatly reducing their own certification workload and time to market.

When manufacturers start with a certified platform, they get a solid base for secure, interoperable smart home devices. If that platform stays the same, new products can go through Fast Track or Rapid Recertification more quickly, cutting both testing time and cost. This approach gives companies a faster path to market while maintaining Matter compliance and long-term reliability.

A Foundation for Secure, Scalable IoT

The Series 3 platform shows Silicon Labs’ ongoing focus on combining performance, energy efficiency, and security in one design. Its PSA Level 4 Secure Vault protects against both physical and software attacks, and the multi-core setup keeps the system responsive when handling several protocols and sensors at the same time.

By pairing these capabilities with Matter platform certification, the SiMG301 and SiBG301 give developers a straightforward way to deliver interoperable, secure, and energy-efficient devices. From connected lighting and sensors to smart building controls, Series 3 offers the power and protection needed to support the next era of IoT systems built for longevity and trust.
